Knowing Who Fights For Us - Learning Truth Leads to Loving Well
Our story today comes from the Old Testament...and it is one of the most well known stories. The story of David and Goliath. We pick up in the story where Goliath has just taunted the Israelites for 40 days (where else does that number come up for taunting and testing…). David hears his threat and has a very different response than all the rest of Israel’s army.
This story helps us learn who God is and who we are with Him as our defender.
Read 1 Samuel 17:24-37
What question does David ask after hearing Goliath’s threat (26)?
Where does David find his confidence to fight this giant?
How did others respond to his confidence?
How did David’s trust in God empower him to live a radical life in the face of challenges and doubters?
What would it look like to trust God with some situations in your life? (take time and pray for each other in these).
Challenge each other to remember God’s love for you each day. Find fun ways to do this together i.e. hang sticky notes in different places. Put a note in bathrooms on the mirror, put a note in the car or other places you go often.
